Listening

  • Loud sounds in general communicate fullness: strong voice, strong cough, groaning. Talks a lot. Loud breathing sound.
  • Weak sounds in general indicate emptiness: weak voice, groaning, borborygmus, dry and soft cough. Does not like to speak.

Smelling

In general, intense odors are associated with heat and the absence of odor with cold. For example bad breath: Stomach heat.


There are odors associated with each of the five movements:

  • Sweet. Earth.
  • Rancid, sour. Wood.
  • Scorched. Fire.
  • Putrid. Metal.
  • Rotten. Water.
