Palpation is a very important diagnostic tool in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
We palpate the patient's skin to perceive changes in temperature, hardness/flaccidity, moisture/dryness of the skin. Changes in texture: nodules, masses, gelosis.
We also palpate acupuncture points as a diagnostic tool: the Yuan-Source points, Xi-Cleft points, Back-Shu points, Ashi points... if they are painful on palpation, feel "empty" or "full", they give us information about the affected organs and channels.
The abdominal palpation provides us with information about the state of the five elements in the body.
The pulse palpation is an art in itself for diagnosis in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Through palpation of the radial artery or regional pulses, we receive information about the state of Qi and Blood, the depth at which the disease is located and the affected Zang-Fu organs.
