A pathological pulse depends on each person and the circumstances they are in. For example, we might consider pathological the case of an elderly person presenting a wide pulse in winter. Or a young person in summer with a deep pulse.

There are mainly 2 groups of pathological pulses: excess and deficiency of energy.

Location of disease

  • Exterior: floating pulse
  • Interior: deep pulse

Nature of disease

  • Heat: rapid pulse
  • Cold: slow pulse

State

  • Fullness: strong
  • Empty: weak, faint.
