Sorrow, grief, loss, regret, melancholy.
Sadness dissolves and exhausts the Qi of the upper burner, Heart and Lungs. When Qi or Yang is deficient, Yin increases: feeling of oppression in the chest. Tiredness, paleness, weak voice, depressed mood, asthma, constipation.
Each person faces sadness in their own way. Some cry a lot, some talk, paint, write, some isolate themselves to protect themselves from the loss. A more Metal person, for example, may tend to hide it and avoid it with excessive self-control, take a cold, distant attitude, feel uncomfortable with the expression of emotions.
Crying is a way to drain and relieve sadness that oppresses the chest. If crying does not relieve it, sadness can become more chronic and Yin and Blood may have weakened.
If there is not enough Qi, what there is stagnates easily: Liver-Qi stagnation. In the long term it can also lead to Liver-Blood deficiency, which emotionally gives lack of direction in life.
