Thirst gives us information about the state of the Body Fluids and about the activity of the Stomach, which receives fluids and food.
In general the sensation of thirst increases when we consume fluids during physical activity, in conditions of heat or dryness (both external and internal factors, for example Yin deficiency). The sensation of thirst decreases with cold and dampness.
- Full-Heat: great thirst, drinks a lot and prefers cold drinks. There will be heat symptoms and fever. Yang Ming has excess heat. Overflowing pulse. Constipation.
- Damp-Heat: thirst but drinks little. No sweating. Sticky mouth, heaviness, seborrheic coating. Sticky and foul-smelling stools. Worsens in the late afternoon.
- Lung Dryness: dryness in the throat, lips, nose, skin. Dry stools. Dry cough. May be due to environmental dryness, some air conditioning systems dry out the environment. Teachers who frequently strain their voice, sleeping with the mouth open.
- Kidney-Yin deficiency: dry throat at night. Insomnia, nervousness and thirst.
- Blood stasis: thirst but does not like to swallow. Dry mouth, only moistens the lips. Purple tongue.
