External Dryness

  • It is Yang.
  • It is progressive.
  • Dehydrates, dries, consumes organic fluids and Yin.
  • It can be understood as a deficiency of moisture.
  • Mainly affects skin and mucous membranes. Mainly injures Lung and in the long term can affect Kidney.
  • Exposure to air conditioning, heating or dry climate produces it.
  • Dry and cracked skin.
  • Dry mouth, nose, throat. Dry cough.
  • Dry eyes.
  • Dry stools, haemorrhoids.
  • Dry, brittle, thin hair.
  • Predominates in autumn.

Internal Dryness

The deficiency of organic fluids can come from:

  • Spleen, Kidney and Lung do not produce and distribute fluids correctly.
  • Excessive consumption of fluids from internal causes: vomiting, diarrhoea, excessive sweating or febrile illness.

Treatment

  • Acupuncture points suitable for dryness because they tonify Yin are: KI-10, LU-7, SP-3.
  • It may be advisable to add points to drain Heat.
  • The person needs more rest and to hydrate: drink more water, broths, fruits according to the season, some oily foods.
