Zhi is known as the will-power and is the psychic aspect of Kidney.
Hun (Liver) provides us with vision, the idea. Gall Bladder concretizes it into a decision. Zhi provides the impulse to carry it into action.
When we have vitality, a good Kidney energy, we approach decisions with eagerness. Will-power is reflected in our determination and motivation.
When our Kidney energy is weak we avoid carrying things into action or we do it with poor impulse, with fear, little initiative, we become easily discouraged by any setback, we abandon or change our objective.
Kidney is Water element, the capacity for storage. Therefore Zhi also has a function of storing long-term memory. Kidney Jing nourishes the brain. Therefore, as we age and Kidney energy deteriorates, memory is one of the things that worsen.
The relationship between Kidney and Heart, Zhi and Shen, is very important in the balance of the person. If the mind has clear objectives but does not have enough will-power, the person does not advance towards materializing them. If instead it has a strong will but the mind is confused, the person will have dangerous impulsivity for themselves.
