The brain in Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the six Curious Organs. It is called the sea of marrow. The Kidney nourishes the brain with Jing through the marrow.
Functions of the brain
The brain controls:
- Intelligence
- Memory
- Concentration
- The senses: sight, hearing, smell, and touch.
The functions of the brain are closely related to Shen, so they will also depend on the Heart, which carries blood to the brain.
Memory problems, blurred vision, poor concentration, may derive from Kidney-Jing deficiency or Heart-Blood deficiency.
Acupuncture points
Acupuncture points related to the brain: GV-20, GV-16 are points of the Governing Vessel from which branches depart that go directly to the brain.
