Its functions are grouped into four:

• Clears Lung-Heat.

• Descends Lung-Qi.

• Calms the Corporeal Soul. Excessive crying.

• Shoulder pain. Bi Syndrome: obstruction due to evil energy. Frequently used.

• Cools the Blood and stops bleeding (e.g., nosebleed). A branch of the Liver Channel crosses the diaphragm and disperses into the Lungs. If Liver-Fire flares upward and reaches the Lung, it can damage both blood vessels and fluids, causing sudden thirst and nasal and/or mouth bleeding with cough, frustration and anger. We know this as "Liver attacking Lung" or "Wood insulting Metal".
