External Cold

  • It is Yin.
  • Characteristic of winter, Water element.
  • Freezes, slows down movement to the maximum, causes stagnation.
  • Contracts, shrinks. Contracture. Produces intense pain Cold Bi.
  • Cools. Body temperature drops. (Can transform into Heat and fever, see 6 levels).
  • Diminishes Yang, body Heat and metabolism, which affects Vitality.
  • Chills.
  • Tongue with white coating.


Example: Cold stagnates the Liver Channel, Wind-Cold attacks the Lungs

Internal Cold

There are internal imbalances that produce Cold patterns. Usually Cold due to Yang Deficiency. Slow metabolism, low temperature, Cold, slow, deep and soft pulse, profuse and clear secretions, pallor. Swollen, pale tongue.

Treatment

  • Disperse Cold
  • Warm with moxibustion in cases where Yang has been weakened
