Liver-Yang rising occurs in a context of Yin deficiency. This deficiency fails to control Yang and makes the terrain vulnerable to acute and sudden surges of energy to the head. A stroke may occur. See also Wind stroke
Causes
Liver-Yang rising:
- Emotional: anger, resentment...
- Liver-Qi stagnation that over time consumes Yin
- Kidney-Yin deficiency, Liver, or both
Symptoms
- Sudden loss of consciousness
- Hemiplegia, aphasia, deviation of the mouth
- Head pain and swelling
- Vertigo as if in a boat
- Tremor
- Instability
- Nervousness and impatience
- Numbness of the limbs
- Red face
- Dry mouth
- Tinnitus
- Dry and red eyes
- Red tongue, deviated
- Wiry pulse and rapid
Treatment
- GV-26: acute wind, helps reconnect Yin and Yang
- GB-20; GV-16: expels wind
- Treat the cause: nourish Liver and Kidney Yin, descend Yang. KI-10, SP-6
