Xue deficiency or emptiness of Blood usually occurs mainly with the Spleen and Stomach.
Xue does not nourish, warm or moisten the body sufficiently.
It can be due to insufficiency of quantity or quality of Xue.
Whenever there is Xue emptiness there is Yin emptiness, but not always when there is Yin emptiness is there Xue emptiness.
Causes
- Haemorrhage
- Burn
- Excessive menstruation
- Consumes excessive blood: sweating and lactation
- Inadequate diet: the body cannot obtain material to form quality blood.
- Spleen-Qi deficiency does not absorb or transform nutrients. In the long term it leads to a Kidney-Qi deficiency.
Symptoms
- Lack of body nourishment: asthenia, weakness, weight loss
- Interior Cold
- Depending on the organ most affected, it will be seen in the eyes, shen, sinews...
- Pale face without lustre. Pale lips and tongue
- Pale nails
- Hair loss
- Dryness of skin and mucous membranes
- Liver: dry, irritated eyes, floaters, blurred vision
- Heart: Palpitations, dizziness
- Muscle cramps
- Numbness, tingling of hands and feet (Qi arrives but Xue does not). Ma Mu.
- Menstrual disorders: amenorrhoea, delayed cycles with scanty bleeding
- Fine, choppy, soft pulse
- Tongue: pale, dry, thin, soft, without coating and possibly with cracks
