Wind

External Wind

  • It is Yang.
  • It is rapid. It strikes suddenly, symptoms appear abruptly.
  • It is mobile and changeable: symptoms can change location, appear and disappear.
  • It mainly affects the upper parts of the body (head, throat...) and the surface (skin, yang channels, Defensive Qi (Wei Qi)).
  • It affects muscles and tendons (Wind Bi).
  • As it weakens the surface, combined with other external energies (like cold, heat...) it allows them to penetrate quickly and intensifies them. For example, a cold wind attacks with much more violence than cold.
  • It typically affects in spring. It is Wood.

Examples of symptoms of external wind attack: migraine, otitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, eye itching, sneezing. Aversion to wind. Erratic joint pains, changing location and intensity. Insomnia, anxiety.
